DETAIL GUIDE

How We Categorize and Treat Symptoms by Women's Life Stages

Although life stages differ, the starting point of treatment is your current discomfort

A woman's body continues to change through menarche, menstruation, pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause. Even for identical lower abdominal pain and fatigue, the required treatment differs depending on whether it occurs around menstruation, after childbirth, or during the perimenopausal transition.

SOIAN Korean Medicine Clinic does not view gynecological disorders as isolated problems of the uterus alone. We determine treatment priorities by comprehensively examining menstrual cycle and bleeding patterns, tenderness in the lower abdomen and abdomen, movement of the pelvis and lower back, as well as cold/heat tendencies, sleep, digestion, and fatigue.

Treatment goals are tailored to the changes that trouble the patient most. For menstrual pain, we specifically evaluate reductions in painkiller frequency and restoration of daily routines; for postpartum recovery, pain reduction alongside stamina and sleep improvement; and for menopause, relief from hot flashes, palpitations, and insomnia.

Menstrual Pain & Irregularity: Treating Pain, Bleeding, and Systemic Reactions Together

Dysmenorrhea is not merely a matter of abdominal pain duration. We evaluate whether swelling and irritability precede menstruation, whether severe cramping occurs on day one, whether lower back/pelvic pain, headache, and nausea accompany it, and the volume, color, and clot characteristics of menstrual blood.

We do not use identical prescriptions for cases with systemic cold and low vitality, strong upper-body heat and tension, heavy menstrual bleeding leading to rapid exhaustion, or cycle irregularity and worsening pain triggered by acute stress.

Constitution-based Herbal Medicine addresses menstrual pain, cycles, and systemic symptoms by discerning the balance of cold/heat, qi and blood, blood stasis (eohyeol), and stagnation. Constitutional acupuncture and pharmacopuncture are applied to relieve tension and tenderness in the lower abdomen, epigastrium, lower back, and pelvis. Even when taking painkillers or hormonal medications, Korean medicine treatment can be started in parallel based on current symptoms and treatment responses.

After treatment, we compare pain intensity and duration, painkiller dosage, menstrual flow and cycle regularity, pre/postmenstrual headaches, edema, mood changes, and the range of daily activities maintained during menstruation.

Postpartum: Concurrently Restoring Depleted Stamina and Relieving Pain

During the recovery of the abdomen and pelvis after childbirth, various pains can emerge in the lower back, pelvis, wrists, knees, neck, and shoulders. When combined with sleep deprivation, nursing, and childcare, sensations of cold, sweating, dizziness, palpitations, and severe fatigue may persist for a prolonged period.

Constitution-based postpartum herbal medicine is formulated after evaluating bleeding, lochia, lactation status, appetite, digestion, sleep, and overall physical stamina. Acupuncture and pharmacopuncture treat pain in the abdomen and pelvis, as well as the neck, shoulders, wrists, and lower back overloaded by childcare.

Chuna therapy is not about forcibly forcing the pelvis into alignment after childbirth. It enables smooth mobility in the lumbar spine, pelvis, sacroiliac joints, and hip joints, while relieving localized stress from nursing and holding the baby.

The goal of postpartum treatment is not a rushed return to pre-pregnancy appearance, but rather reducing pain and fatigue and enhancing recovery after sleep to build a body capable of handling childcare and daily routines.

Climacteric & Menopause: Treating Sleep, Palpitations, Dryness, and Fatigue Beyond Hot Flashes

During the climacteric period, sudden hot flashes, sweating, night sweats, sleep disturbances, heart palpitations, fatigue, emotional fluctuations, and generalized dryness can manifest in diverse combinations.

SOIAN Korean Medicine Clinic does not unconditionally cool down heat or solely replenish qi. We distinguish whether upper-body heat and chest tension are predominant, whether cold sensations and low vitality in the lower abdomen and legs are significant, or whether insomnia, anxiety, and poor digestion are exacerbating the symptoms.

Constitution-based herbal medicine is formulated according to the degree of yin-blood deficiency, physical depletion, internal heat, and stagnation; constitutional acupuncture and pharmacopuncture are applied to reduce tension in the neck, rib cage, epigastrium, and abdomen. When balancing the TMJ and upper cervical spine yields clear full-body relaxation and improvement in hot flashes and palpitations, TMJ Balance Therapy is incorporated.

Even if undergoing hormone replacement therapy or other treatments, Korean medicine care can proceed concurrently with distinct treatment goals targeting hot flashes, sleep quality, fatigue, digestion, and physical tension.

Treatment Progress is Measured by Restored Daily Life

Even for the same gynecological condition, the required combination of treatments differs. Centered around constitution-based herbal medicine, we select treatments from among acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, Chuna therapy, and TMJ Balance Therapy that actively address your present symptoms.

Progress is evaluated not by a single lab metric, but by menstrual pain and analgesic usage, stability of bleeding and cycles, postpartum pain and range of activity, and the frequency of menopausal hot flashes alongside sleep and fatigue recovery. We adjust prescriptions and treatment intervals by verifying whether immediate post-treatment improvements persist into subsequent menstrual cycles and daily life.

For new bleeding occurring after menopause or recurring intermenstrual bleeding, Korean medicine treatment plans are established alongside thorough causal evaluation.

SOIAN Korean Medicine Clinic does not view menstrual, postpartum, or climacteric symptoms merely as changes that must be tolerated. By clearly identifying your most distressing symptoms and treating constitution, circulation, nervous system tension, and stamina concurrently, we help restore comfortable daily life.
