Skin Disorders & Skin Recovery Management

Beyond merely suppressing skin flares temporarily, we treat both the internal triggers of recurrence and the skin's innate regenerative capacity

  • Recurrent Itching
  • Redness & Heat Sensation
  • Exudate & Blisters
  • Dryness, Scaling & Fissures

SUMMARY

Care Guide Summary

Atopic dermatitis, eczema, dyshidrotic eczema, urticaria, and acne differ not only in external appearance but also in their stages of itching, heat, exudation, and dryness.
SOIAN Korean Medicine Clinic examines skin conditions, constitution, digestion, bowel movements, sleep, stress, and menstrual cycles to resolve underlying conditions causing recurrence using constitution-based herbal medicine, acupuncture, and pharmacopuncture.

DETAIL GUIDE

How We Treat Inflammatory Stages of the Skin and Recurrence Conditions

We First Identify the Current Stage of the Skin Rather than the Diagnostic Label Alone

Even within the same diagnosis of atopic dermatitis or eczema, treatment must differ between the acute phase—marked by erythema, heat, and weeping fluid—and the chronic phase, characterized by prolonged recurrence, severe dryness, and lichenification.

  • Whether severe itching rapidly shifts in location
  • Whether redness, heat sensation, and burning pain are intense
  • Whether blisters, weeping exudate, and edema are prominent
  • Whether the skin is parched with flaking, cracking, and thickening
  • Whether flares correlate with diet, sweating, sleep deprivation, stress, or menstrual cycles

In Korean Medicine, these clinical patterns are categorized into Wind, Heat, Dampness, and Dryness. Rather than solely observing surface eruptions, we prioritize whether to first suppress acute inflammation or restore dehydrated, damaged skin barriers.

We Examine Digestion, Bowel Function, Sleep, and Thermal Distribution Alongside the Skin

The skin serves as a barrier against external irritants while sensitively reflecting internal immune and inflammatory equilibrium. Many patients experience worsening skin conditions when digestion falters, constipation or diarrhea recurs, sleep is disrupted, or heat surges to the face and upper body.

SOIAN Korean Medicine Clinic checks gastrointestinal digestion, absorption, and elimination, postprandial responses, appetite, thirst, sleep, sweating, cold/heat balance, and menstrual patterns. Even for urticaria, prescriptions become truly accurate only when identifying whether triggers involve cold air, heat, pressure, food, or emotional stress.

For acne and folliculitis, we look beyond sebum and pores to treat facial/upper-body heat congestion, sleep deficits, digestive/bowel issues, menstruation, and stress. For dermatitis and pompholyx, we distinguish exudative, edematous flare-ups from phases dominated by xerosis and fissures.

Centering on Constitution-based Herbal Medicine, with Acupuncture & Pharmacopuncture Applied as Needed

Because skin disorders cannot be resolved merely by soothing itchiness on clinic visit days, constitution-based herbal medicine plays a fundamental role. When heat and exudate predominate, we clear excess inflammation and dampness; when chronic dryness and scaling dominate, we formulate herbs to nourish the skin and facilitate epidermal barrier restoration.

Acupuncture regulates pruritus, heat sensations, stress-induced hypersensitivity, sleep, digestion, and elimination in accordance with constitutional balance. Pharmacopuncture is selectively administered when localized lesions are red, swollen, chronically inflamed, or exhibit pronounced tissue congestion.

Through constitution-based herbal medicine, we rectify internal systemic drivers of recurrent flare-ups; with acupuncture, we alleviate itching and autonomic tension; with pharmacopuncture, we accelerate targeted recovery in severely affected sites.

You Can Receive Treatment Even While Using Topical Agents or Antihistamines

During acute flares with intense itching and inflammation, conventional therapies such as moisturizers, topical agents, and antihistamines may be necessary. In atopic dermatitis, topical corticosteroids, non-steroidal topicals, and moisturizing wet-wrap therapies serve as standard treatments depending on condition severity. (AAD)

SOIAN Korean Medicine Clinic does not postpone Korean medicine care simply because you are using topicals. While skin stabilizes, we treat internal exacerbating factors and enhance natural resilience using constitution-based herbal medicine, acupuncture, and pharmacopuncture.

We never advise abruptly discontinuing long-term medications on your own. As itch-free periods lengthen, weeping subsides, and new eruptions decrease, you can adjust the potency and frequency of conventional treatments in consultation with your prescribing physician.

Treatment Progress Evaluates Daily Living and Recurrence Intervals Beyond Photographs Alone

We do not consider temporary lightening of the skin for a day or two to be sufficient.

  • Whether you can sleep through the night without scratching
  • Whether exudate, swelling, and new eruptive lesions diminish
  • Whether your reliance on moisturizers and topicals decreases
  • Whether flare intensity after food intake, sweating, or stress is mitigated
  • Whether intervals between remissions and subsequent flare-ups lengthen

While comparing erythema and lesion distribution through photographs, we evaluate sleep, pruritus, digestion, bowel habits, and quality of life. After subduing acute inflammation, our goal is resolving dryness and lichenification to extend periods where the skin maintains lasting stability on its own.

CONSULTATION

Let's Check Your Current Condition Together

If skin symptoms keep recurring, do not simply wonder what more to apply topically; you must treat skin stages alongside constitution, digestion, sleep, and stress factors together.
